Other environmental products made from sugar cane

Sugarcane is a renewable eco-friendly source as it reproduces in cycles of less than one year. In comparison, trees for paper production generally take 7 to 10 years to reach maturity.

Once we started investigating what else was made from sugar cane it is amazing the environmental products we found. Here are our top 5 that can really make a positive impact on the planet.

  1. Nuud

After making all the obvious changes of ditching plastic straws and using shampoo bars over the traditional, I started to look into what I could do next. Find more products which were not only sustainable but also practical for everyday life. Which is when I purchased Nuud deodorant. Nuud is an all-natural and vegan anti-odorant. Essentially, it cuts out all of the crap and chemicals found in your every day, non-natural, deodorants. In Nuud you will not find – aluminium, chemicals, artificial fragrances, salts, parabens or alcohol. It is also 100% cruelty-free! Nuud works for a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 7 days (with daily showering). One application can last for days, Micro silver structurally reduces the bacteria population, which means the smell of perspiration cannot occur. Nuud comes in bioplastic tube made from sugarcane. Nudd is available here for $21.50

2. Urban Ethos

Urban Ethos makes rubbish bin bags and zip lock and freezer bags from sugar cane! Urban Ethos source and develop eco-conscious brands from around the world. We simply love their ethos.

3. Pure Labels makes labels and stickers from sugar cane. There mission: Deforestation accounts for 20 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. By using sugarcane in place of wood pulp we can lower pollution and preserve forest ecosystems. Products, packaging, and labels made from bagasse require less energy to produce. The waste product has been harvested and collected as part of the sugar industry processes - it’s already at the factory! Because fewer steps are needed, sugarcane is less polluting and less fuel intensive than its wood-based counterpart. Bagasse is already available in abundance as an agricultural waste product. Since the waste product already exists, it makes sense to use it! We are using this sustainable material to create beautiful labels with a unique natural, organic appearance.
